Tooth Extraction
A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jaw bone. A tooth extraction becomes necessary when it is no longer possible to repair the tooth with either a filling, crown or other treatment.
The dentist will first numb the area and will then se forceps to extract your teeth. They may put a couple of sutures in to hold the gum together and allow it time to heal. These will dissolve in around 7-10 days.
Compared with the alternative of root canal treatment, a tooth extraction can provide a cheaper option. It is however necessary to consider what you will do with the space that is left following an extraction, having an implant, bridge or denture can increase the cost dramatically.
