White Fillings
White fillings, also known as composite fillings, are effective in replacing unsightly amalgam or silver fillings. They are used to replace part of a tooth that has been lost because of decay or through accidental damage.
With today’s modern filling materials, tooth coloured fillings are available that blend in naturally with the colour of your teeth. These fillings are mercury free and are as strong in most cases as amalgam fillings, meaning they can last for long periods of time if they are well looked after.
Some of the benefits of white fillings are:
- Unlike silver fillings, white filling materials are very effective in repairing damaged front teeth without leaving any unsightly marks
- White fillings are less noticeable than silver fillings which turn black in the mouth – they come in a range of shades so they can be matched to the color of the teeth
- A tooth needs less preparation for white fillings than silver fillings
